Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Nalbari

VKV Nalbari came into existence with the tireless and selfless effort of a few well wishers who have been supporting the Vidyalaya since the day of its inception. It is located 1.8 km away from Nalbari Chamata road in the village Sandheli, Tehsil Pokowa. It is amidst paddy fields making the location scenic. A 1.8 km section of road connects the Vidyalaya with Nalbari Chamata road. 4 school buses commute the students from most parts of the greater Nalbari district twice a day. Most of the students come to the Vidyalaya by schoolbuses as the Vidyalaya is located about 6-7 km away from the heart of the town.

The district Nalbari is situated between 26°-27° latitude and 91°-97° longitude. It is bounded by the Darrang and Kamrup districts in the east, Barpeta district in the west, Bhutan in the north and the Brahmaputra in the south. There are a number of schools affiliated to Secondary Education Board of Assam in the greater Nalbari district. A few people of the district felt the need of a C.B.S.E. affiliated school and brought Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya to Nalbari in the year 2004. The Vidyalaya commenced classes in a rented house near a place named I.T Building, Gohainpara with 45 students in the year 2004. The people of Nalbari welcomed the arrival of the Vidyalaya that attracted parents to admit their children into it.

The Vidyalaya was shifted to its own 10-bigha-plot in village Sandheli donated by late Chittaranjan Patowary, a retired employee of Numaligarh Refinery and a native of the village. He passed away in September 2009. In the memory of late Chittaranjan Patowary the residential campus of the Vidyalaya has been named as Uttam Narayan Gireebala Patowary Campus.

Unique Features and Best Practices

Parents and well-wishers have been involved in the construction of the 1500 feet long boundary wall. The construction of the wall started in December 2009 with a few parents and well-wishers voluntarily contributing in cash or kinds. The constant collection drive of the parents along with the Principal resulted in collection of Rs. 1, 10,000/- within a month. On 22nd November 2009, the inauguration stone was laid down. In a parents’ meeting held on 7th March 2010 more parents were appealed for financial support for the construction of the boundary wall. With this more parents have started contributing for the same. The construction is going on under the supervision of a few parents.
